Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram tours Gateway development to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week
Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram visited Legacie's The Gateway development on Leeds Street in Liverpool to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week and highlight the positive impact of apprenticeship schemes on local communities.
During his visit, Mayor Rotheram had the opportunity to meet with current apprentices and trainees employed by Legacie and partner RWInvest at the scheme which is a flagship development and set to play a pivotal role in the regeneration of Liverpool’s Pumpfields district.
The Gateway will be a key driver of the local economy, creating jobs, providing affordable housing, and delivering vibrant public spaces for residents.
As part of its Bright Futures scheme, Legacie, supported by sales partner RWInvest, welcomes young apprentices and trainees from Merseyside each year, who are not currently in education, employment, or training.
The scheme offers them full-time, paid apprenticeships in construction, hands-on experience on-site, mentorship from experienced staff, and a degree-level industry qualification in collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University.
“We’re proud of our Bright Futures initiative and its impact on the lives of young people across the region,” said John Morley, Founder and CEO of Legacie.
“By offering these apprenticeships, we’re not only helping individuals build fulfilling careers in construction, but we’re also contributing to the regeneration of our local communities. The Gateway is a brilliant example of what can be achieved when we invest in both our infrastructure and our people.”
The Gateway development has already created over 30 jobs on-site and more than 500 jobs through the local supply chain. In total, 7 trainees and apprentices have been employed through Legacie and its sales partner RWinvest as part of the Bright Futures Scheme.
The Gateway development alone represents an incredible £200 million of inward investment into Liverpool city centre, and it is part of a broader £660 million investment across all Legacie projects across the UK.
"It was fantastic to meet the apprentices and learn about the skills, trades, and opportunities for learning and development at Legacie and RWInvest," said Mayor Rotheram.
The Gateway is one of the largest residential developments underway in Liverpool, comprising four towers, two of which are linked by a stunning seventh-floor landscaped sky bridge. With 656 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, The Gateway offers 5-star residential amenities, including a garden spa with a swimming pool, a gym, residents’ lounge, private dining area, cinema, and podcast booths. To date, over 90% of the apartments have been sold, showcasing the strong demand for high-quality residential spaces in Liverpool city centre.
“As we continue to move forward with The Gateway, we are not only bringing much-needed housing to the area, but we are also helping to transform the Pumpfields district into a vibrant, thriving neighbourhood. Demand for apartments here has been phenomenal and it is fantastic that local people and apprentices are helping to build this," added Michael Gledhill, Director of RWInvest.
