As a centre for global trade for over 300
years, it is unsurprising Liverpool is today
a cosmopolitan and vibrant city.

Capitalising on a uniquely rich commercial, architectural and cultural legacy, Liverpool is a city building on an illustrious history with a palpable sense of momentum.
Albert Dock
The Albert Dock perfectly typifies the regeneration and possibility of Liverpool. The docks were first opened in 1846, built to a then revolutionary design of cast iron and brick. Commodities such as tea, sugar, brandy and tobacco were stored here. As shipping evolved to larger vessels requiring deep water ports, the Albert Dock fell into disrepair.
Liverpool Waters Regeneration
Liverpool Waters is a 5.5 billion regeneration of 60 hectares of the of the historic Princes Dock. Led by The Peel Group, this mixed use waterfront quarter is one of the most ambitious regeneration schemes in the country. The 30 year project is forecasted to create up to 17,000 jobs and will have a dramatic impact on the cities economy. With a clear vision of reinstating Liverpool’s status as a global city, the projects centrepiece is a 55 storey tower - the tallest building in the UK outside of London.
Liverpool One
Shopping
2008 marked the completion of Liverpool ONE; a 1 billion pound regeneration of 42 acres of city centre real estate to create one of the most popular retail destinations in the country. The 170 stores and services make up the largest open air shopping centre in the UK. Attracting nearly 30 million visitors per year, it has been described as the ‘retail success story of a generation’ - reinvigorating the centre of the city.
The knowledge Quarter
Home to a multitude of academic and research facilities such as the University of Liverpool, Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Liverpool Science Park. This region already employs 14,000. New multi-billion pound plans for the 450-acre Knowledge Quarter will see it become a world-class destination for science, innovation, education, technology and the creative and performing arts. Among the highlights of the £2bn, five-year plan is Paddington Village, a 1.8m sq ft health, education science and residential development space.
